Crowdsourcing has made amazing things—think Wikipedia and YouTube. But they're kind of noisy.
And online communities are amazing ways of connecting us—think Facebook and Twitter. But they are mostly for socializing. What if we could come together in a huge way and actually produce something of really high quality? Wouldn't that be great? But that is crowdsourcing's hardest problem. We think it can be solved. We are going to try. We'll keep Infobitt as open and simple-to-use as popular crowdsourcing sites—maybe more so. But we think the method we use might result in better content. Our founder, Dr. Larry Sanger, is co-founder of Wikipedia. But Infobitt won't be a wiki. We're rethinking crowdsourcing and writing our software from scratch. And using this tool, our first job won't be to write an encyclopedia. It also won't be expert-managed, though it won't be hostile to experts, either. It's something new. |
